Walk with the wild sooty mangabeys— a unique new activity in Sapo.
Meet the sooty mangabeys in their natural habitat and enjoy the rare opportunity to observe them up close.
One group of wild sooty mangabeys has been habituated to human presence, allowing visitors to approach them at close range. Today, this group of mangabeys simply sees us as another species sharing the forest with them, without competition, fear, or disturbance. To protect the animals from human diseases, all visitors will be given a face mask to wear.
This initiative is much more than a tourist attraction. It is a conservation project that creates income opportunities for local communities while ensuring the mangabeys' long-term protection. A dedicated team follows and monitors the group every day of the year, helping to protect them from poaching.
At a time when mining and logging are destroying forests, this initiative offers a sustainable alternative, demonstrating that forests can generate economic benefits while remaining protected for future generations.
